Jannevince “Jan” Quijada is excited to join the ODIME team as the Assistant Director for First Generation Initiatives. Her primarily role is to assist students and staff in implementing the university’s initiatives for first-generation students, including developing and planning activities for the newly created Learning Living Community (LLC), and coordinating activities for the Student Transition Empowerment Program (STEP).
An immigrant from the Philippines, she relates to the challenges that first-generation students face and seeks to empower them through academic success and community involvement.
Jan obtained her Bachelor’s degree in History from the University of California in Irvine and her Master’s Degree in Education from Stanford University. She is currently in the process of completing her College Counseling certificate through the University of California, San Diego extension program. A former high school History teacher, Jan also holds a Social Science teaching credential.
In her spare time, Jan enjoys watching Asian dramas, cosplaying at Anime conventions, baking banana bread, and learning a fourth language.
