Ms. Katlin Barrett, a self-proclaimed Marketing Maven, joins the Office of Diversity, Inclusion and Multicultural Education (ODIME) as an Assistant Director. Her primary responsibilities include leading the marketing efforts and design team, using business strategies and proven marketing practices to grow student and community engagement within ODIME, as well as providing support for all Mason students with a focus on underrepresented and marginalized students.
Katlin earned her B.S. in Applied Sociology with a Concentration in Law and Society from East Carolina University, making her the first college graduate in her family. She would not have been able to succeed without the support of her family, especially her mother who helped her fill out her FASFA all four years. (Thanks Mom!) While at East Carolina, she worked as an Orientation Assistant and Social Researcher igniting her passion for University Life and analysis. Upon graduation, she took a gap year and moved to Tennessee to grow personally and figure out the next steps.
After connecting with Dr. Shannon Davis in George Mason’s Department of Anthropology and Sociology, Katlin decided to attend George Mason University to pursue her Master’s in the MAIS program with dual emphasis in Higher Education and Public Sociology. While attending George Mason, she also taught in the Communication’s Department teaching Public Speaking and Interpersonal and Group Dynamics.
Katlin is a true Myers-Briggs ENFJ starring in the days of her life and fighting the good cause in her spare time. Katlin is a proud North Carolinian and her family has lived in North Carolina since the 1880s. She has been living in Fairfax County for the past five years.
